NHRC Chairman: Qatar Seeks to Eliminate Human Rights Violations
Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al-Marri said this years celebration of the National Day comes when Qatar is witnessing a new era.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al-Marri has extended his sincere congratulations to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the people of Qatar on the occasion of the glorious National Day.
Qatar has become the focus of the world attention for its progress at the local, regional and international levels, and made its voice heard world-wide, Dr. Al Marri said.
He added that it has realized the need to tackle what is being said around by working harder to define the deficiencies before perfection in all aspects and areas.
"In this great day inspiring us with love and devotion messages to this nation, we are honored to announce that our beloved country is moving forwards on eliminating all forms of violation of human rights, because the people of Qatar, described by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in his recent address before the Shura Council as a nation that enjoys a high degree of morals, has facilitated our task in establishing a culture of human rights, which is is deeply- rooted in its behavior."
"It is our right to celebrate this day in memory of the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani and to move forward on achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 outlining Qatar's long-term wise leaderships vision," he concluded.
For her part, the NHRC Secretary-General Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah said the National Day is particularly symbolic as it emphasizes the greatness of this generous nation and makes each Qatari national proud of belonging and being loyal to this good earth and its great leaders, who have contributed to its development.
Our unlimited love to Qatar is not only reflected in the ceremonial events, but through the devoted efforts being exerted by the national institutions in all fields to defend their goals and spread their missions and visions that serves the Qatar National Vision 2030, she added.
In this context, NHRC has made unremitting efforts in terms of establishing and promoting human rights culture, she said, pointing out that this years activities were in accordance with the strategy adopted at all local, regional and international levels.
The Committee has organized an inter-active course for its members as well as a special session to prepare the trainers in the field of human rights, Al-Attiyah explained.
She said that NHRC has also organized a media campaign on workers rights as Qatar has the highest ratio of migrant workers in the Middle East.
In this regard, NHRC held during this year a seminar under the theme A Study to Urge the State to Join the International Conventions beside organizing the program My Right As A Child in cooperation with Maximize Foundation for Training and Consulting.
It also held a seminar on the rights of persons with disabilities in family formation in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA).
Al-Attiyah added that NHRC was also keen on organizing a training course for employees on law enforcement, as well as a workshop on the mechanisms of activating the culture of awareness of the law in the Arab societies.
NHRC will also launch a written guide for human rights in temporary labor accommodation and a guide on human rights standards in places of detention and penal and correctional institutions.
The Committee has also collaborated with the Leon Institution in organizing a training session for government agencies to define the principles of human rights in the national and international laws.
i am leaving qatar for good, hope labor law would changed from worst to better. my company is worst than bakalas coz they are not providing ticket, residency renewal and health card. wake up qatar...
It is just not bringing in new laws that will improve the worker's right but the laws should be implemented with full force. When bad employers begin feeling the fear of punishment from their inhuman acts, the confidence within workers will automatically develop on their rights and protection.
What is needed are laws to protect the workers' rights and the will to enforce those laws.
Lot of statements have been made already by authorities, but no action..its really sad that a progressive country like qatar in this day and age holds on to those old rules... its high time qatar take bold action to remove these abusive laws. these rules are tarnishing the image of qatar internationally.
Agree with Sponsor change and abolish 2 year ban.
To keep the country safe, my opinion on exit permit system keep it there with a flexible mode..
Well said jenojaan..
Organizing committee, providing training and educating the workers will not help in anything.Only two thing can overcome all the issue.Provide free exit, abolish sponsorship law and allow change sponsor. If they cant do this then no education or training can help these poor expats.
