New flyover at the Bani Hajer Interchange expected to drastically reduce traffic

Ashghal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority, has been working tirelessly to complete important infrastructure projects around the country.
It added another feather to its cap when it officially threw open the new flyover at the Bani Hajer interchange, which is expected to provide free-flowing traffic from Doha towards Al Rayyan.
A part of the Khalifa Avenue project, the new flyover will largely ensure less transit time and facilitate a better traffic flow, Ashghal said on its official website.
This is because drivers can now start using the Khalifa Avenue to directly access Al Rayyan Road, instead of having to go a circuitous route via several roadblocks and diversions.

The mammoth new overpass, which is 1.15km long, will comprise two lanes that can accommodate at least 1,500 vehicles every hour. It will prove helpful in decongesting populous areas like Bani Hajer, Al Gharrafa and Al Rayyan and also serve vital businesses and educational facilities like Qatar Foundation’s Education City, reported The Peninsula.

Around 70% of construction works at the Khalifa Avenue have been completed and the project is expected to be fully commissioned by the first quarter of 2020.
The Bani Hajer Roundabout, which sits at an absolutely vital location, has been converted into a three-level interchange.
As a result, the junction has become a key access point for three major arteries of Khalifa Avenue, Dukhan Road and Al Rayyan Road.

The project works involves the construction of approximately 11.6-km of dual carriageway with four lanes in each direction, replacing a three-lane way besides seven major free-flowing interchanges, service roads and auxiliary lanes along sections of the road and cycle, pedestrian and camel lanes.
