More rains are likely to fall in the country today, says the Met Department

This year, Qatar has seen strong rains unlike never before.
While the rains caused unexpected flash floods in the country last month, the rains once again fell hard on Sunday after a few days of lull.
Some parts of the country received almost half a year’s worth of rain in just a few hours, leading to water-logging. Similar conditions are once again expected on Monday, reported Gulf Times.

According to a rain chart issued by the Met Department, Al Shahaimiya received nearly 31mm of rainfall on Sunday, compared to the annual rainfall of 77mm in the country.
Abdulla Mohamed Al Mannai, Director of Meteorology Department (Forecast & Analysis), said low pressure clouds that formed in Qatar’s western parts, which moved to the east, resulted in 15 to 20 minutes of heavy rains in Doha and its outskirts.
“The movement of clouds from west to east was quick. Weather will be partly cloudy and moderate rain associated with thunderstorm is expected during the next 36 hours,” Al Mannai was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.

Al Mannai urged the public to keep away from sea-activities for the next 36 hours. The entire Gulf region is currently under the influence of low atmospheric pressure.

Meanwhile, authorities have stepped up their efforts of clearing up rainwater from different parts of Qatar.
Rain emergency teams are working hard to remove accumulated rainwater to ensure smooth traffic flow on highways and streets and in residential areas.

Ashghal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority, said it had put in place several short and medium-term plans to protect the main areas that witnessed rainwater accumulation.
“To ensure the safety of students, parents and teachers, tankers and pumps were distributed near schools that witnessed rainwater accumulation recently,” it said.
