The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) had recently announced that Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine is now approved for emergency use in the State of Qatar.
The announcement was made by the MoPH on their social media platforms and marks the second vaccine to be approved for use in Qatar by the MoPH.

According to MoPH, its approval process follows the similar authorization of Moderna's vaccine to that of health agencies in the United States, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation, pointed out that the vaccine was safe to use and highly effective during the comprehensive clinical trial process.
Furthermore, Dr. Al Khal stated that the people in Qatar can benefit from the availability of two vaccines, both of which have showcased similar levels of safety and efficacy in trials. As a result, Dr. Al Khal stressed that one should not be concerned about which vaccine they are offered.
“Qatar’s proactive approach to securing vaccine agreements has proved highly effective. We were clear from the outset that we only wanted to administer internationally approved, safe, and effective vaccines for the people of Qatar. We will soon receive the first delivery of Moderna vaccines and while this will be a limited quantity initially, this is an encouraging development and we can expect regular, larger deliveries of both Moderna and Pfizer, and BioNTech vaccines to arrive in Qatar in the next few days and weeks," he added.
