Months-long development project to shut down vital road link in Doha

The Ali Bin Abi Talib Street, which connects the C and D Ring Roads in Doha, will be closed for several months as part of major developmental works.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) reported that works on the project’s Phase 1 will begin on Saturday, according to Gulf Times.
The works are being undertaken as part of the sixth phase of a project that involves development of roads and roundabouts in various areas in greater Doha.
All phases of the Ali bin Abi Talib Street development project will be completed in the last quarter of this year.
In Phase 1, the Al Maahed and Al Qafila roundabouts will be converted into signal-controlled intersections. The Ali Bin Abi Talib Street will be expanded to include three lanes and a service road in each direction. Infrastructure development, like stormwater drainage network, street lighting and landscaping, and installation of interlocks will also be carried out.
The project will also develop Al Maahed Street in Salata and Al Qafila Street, which connects Salwa Road and Ali Bin Abi Talib Street. Works include widening these streets to two lanes in each direction in order to enhance traffic capacity.
During project works, two lanes will remain open to traffic in each direction on Ali Bin Abi Talib Street. The right lanes will be closed for those coming from Ali Bin Abi Talib Street towards Al Maahed Street and for those turning left from Ali Bin Abi Talib Street onto Al Maahed Street. Road users will be able to use Al Qafila Roundabout as an alternative.
Also, the right lane will be closed for those coming from Ali Bin Abi Talib Street towards Al Qafila Street while keeping Al Qafila Street open from Salwa Road towards Ali Bin Abi Talib Street. Access roads to residential buildings and business institutes will remain open throughout the project period.
