MME to start placing waste sorting bins in neighbourhoods soon

Qatar’s waste management system is one of the best and most efficient in the region.
It will soon become even more efficient, thanks to the decision by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to place waste sorting bins in residential areas soon.
Once these colour-coded bins are placed, garbage can be sorted in the neighbourhood itself before it is taken to the Waste Treatment Centre.
There will be a big container, housing several smaller ones, which will collect certain types of waste such as paper and plastic. These can later be used to produce energy as well as organic fertilisers, reported Qatar Tribune.
Al Shamal is expected to soon get a new waste treatment centre, spread over three square kilometres. It will be similar to the one currently under operation at Mesaieed.
Around 80 tonnes of organic fertilizer and 50 mega watts of electricity is currently being produced from about 3,000 tonnes of household wastes.
