Ministry introduces a 50% discount on traffic fines

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced a 50% discount in traffic fines in its social media platforms yesterday.

The discount will be applicable on fines charged before December 31, 2015. This offer is valid till April 7, 2016.

MoI further clarified that the discount includes all types of violations such as radar fines and fines charged by traffic police.

The payment can be made through the web portal of the Ministry, Metrash2 App, Self Service Kiosks available in shopping malls and all other service centres.

This attempt is intended to help the persons charged with fines and clear all traffic documents in order to cooperate with the traffic regulations and ensure safety on roads.

The traffic department urges all motorists to strictly abide by the traffic rules and keep safety measures to avoid loss of lives and properties.

I was told that residents are prohibited to wear lungi in the new labour camp (Asian town).

Rizks: Sorry, but you do not yet know the "art" of wearing a Lungi. You should wear it half way up above the knee just the way Keralites do. In that way you save yourself from getting Lungi getting entangled in your feet leading to such unfortunate situations, while at the same time allowing your body to enjoy the constant flow of fresh air. 0)-

Rizks: The answer is simple. Wear the lungi shorter and get a chain guard on your bike

Sorry, but got to agree with WT here ...

Rules are rules, and people know that. (Or maybe some don't because they are idiots). And if you break a rule you will get punished. Why should there be any exceptions? And I don't agree that people make "mistakes". They KNOWINGLY violate the traffic laws!

acchabaccha: Whilst I agree with you on much of ehat you have said, I would disagree about the "ability to pay"...

The simple rule is "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time".

All too often we get posts on QL from people whining about the fine after they have crossed a red light or commited a violation.

There are always two sides to a picture. For those who have 500 riyal currency notes bulging out of their pockets and who can afford to spend weekends at bars, a penalty of QR 6000 means nothing to them. However, on the other side, a majority of people on the roads with vehicles are taxi drivers, bus drivers and those who work in companies transporting manpower or goods. They hardly earn QR 2000 per month and penalty of even QR 500 pinches them badly and the effects are felt even by their families back home. If such people get to pay QR 250 instead of QR 500 due to the discount announced, it still hurts them bad. Such a discount by the government means much to them. Nobody, I believe, would deliberately violate traffic regulations and invite a penalty. Of course, there are always a crazy few as it takes all sorts of people to make up this world. As long as there are humans on the roads behind wheels, there will be traffic violations. A penalty of even a million riyals for a violation cannot stop it and bring the statistics to zero level.

Why doesn't the police confiscate the cars? They should have them in the computer system. They see one, they stop them. He pays or walks. Easy as that. The "offer" is indeed supporting the criminals and punishing the law abiding citizens. Why would you pay in-time if you can get a 50% discount if you don't. The logic of this is stunning.

Got to agree with you. It seems that those in the wrong are being rewarded - Strange indeed.

I assume the idea is to get some money rather than none before handing over to debt colectors

Its not fair on people who were law abiding and paid their fine on time. They paid full fine on time and now who didn't pay for last one year are being rewarded by a discount of 50%. They should in this case refund the 50 % of the fine already paid by law abiding residents.

They should have doubled it for the morons who "forget" to pay. Like this they are encouraged to violate more laws. This government is just too funny.
