Mentally unstable man acquitted of murder charge
Are you responsible for your actions if you are mentally unstable?
A criminal court in Doha has ruled that you are not.
The court acquitted a mentally unstable man from charges of premeditated murder, Gulf Times reported. He has also been asked to stay at Rumailah Hospital’s Psychiatry Department.
He has been ordered to pay QR200,000 as blood money to the murdered man’s legal inheritors as well as QR20,000 to another who was injured.
According to details of the case, the defendant, who was driving his vehicle, hit two expatriates waiting by the roadside. He stopped, got down and fatally stabbed one with a knife several times, causing his death. He also stabbed the other man before fleeing.
A passerby alerted the police and the defendant was nabbed shortly after.
He was later referred by court for medical and psychiatric examination and it was found that he suffered from a neurotic disease that throws him into uncontrollable fits of anger.
He was then declared unaccountable for his deeds during the time of the accident.
Many who drive a car in Qatar are mentally unfit, Mufti. Just look around.
Wow, he can drive a car but he is declared mentally unfit when he kills an expatriate.
What can one say .. If he was sane enough to drive the car and go about his daily business , then even though he has anger management issues, he should know what he is doing ..
However, the court has decided, so that's that.
