Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has started receiving entries for the fourth annual, “Conserving Building Competition”.

It is being held as part of the ongoing National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed).

The fourth edition, launched by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department with the slogan “Become one with Nature”, is open to all buildings, covering the industrial, government, commercial, residential and tourism sectors as well as sports venues.

The Tarsheed “Conserving Building Competition” recognizes the buildings that incorporate, support and promote best practices in the conservation of energy, water and other natural resources.

Those interested can apply for the competition via the Kahramaa website, www.km.com.qa/Tarsheed, where they can view the terms and conditions and fill up the form.

Entries will be accepted until March 10. For further queries contact 44846878 from 8am to 3pm.

The contest started with four sectors in 2012 — commercial, government, residential and industrial. Sports venues and the tourism sector were added later.

Only existing and operational buildings are eligible to enter the competition. Buildings with window air-conditioners and where landscaping has been done with flood irrigation systems are excluded.

The entries will be evaluated in different phases by a panel of experts representing research centres, universities and ministries, among others.

The winning buildings from each sector will receive a prize and certificate for being a role model in the field of building conservation.

These will be honoured during the fourth Tarsheed annual celebrations, to be held on April 21.

The buildings will be evaluated based on specific criteria set out by a team of qualified experts to test the efficient design of mechanical, electrical & plumbing systems in all buildings, which in turn include the HVAC system, lighting, plumbing fixtures, building automation, sustainability measures, specific energy/water consumption, building envelope for the roof and façade, landscape, operation and maintenance measures.
