Going mad running around for parking spaces at major locations? Try this free app!
If you are someone who doesn’t feel like moving out of your home in the evenings or weekends due to concerns about parking space at major locations, then this news is just for you.
Motorists who are heading towards Souq Waqif, Katara Cultural Village and the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center will be able to find empty parking space for their cars, thanks to the recently upgraded Masarak iTraffic app.
The app’s smart parking feature is an immediate solution to people’s parking woes. It will provide motorist with information on empty parking slots and help avoid wasting time. Currently, the app has access to five parking areas, three of which are adjacent to Souq Waqif, reported The Peninsula.
“The connected parking lots include Al Ahmed parking, Al Shioukh parking, Souq Waqif north underground parking, the DECC parking and the Katara Cultural Village underground parking,” said Dr Hamid Menouar, Product Manager-R&D expert at Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC).
The app, which can be downloaded for free for Android and iOS, was developed by QMIC in partnership with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP).
Available in English and Arabic, the app was initially launched mainly to give users an overview of the traffic conditions in Qatar, in real-time, and help them navigate using the shortest and fastest routes to their destinations.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport and Communications ( MoTC) launched the Qatar Parking Master Plan (QPMP), which will develop a geographic information system (GIS) and smart applications for future parking plans, reported Gulf Times.
“QPMP aims at building GIS and smart applications which would assist all relevant entities in the country in terms of future parking plans,” said Rashed Taleb Al Nabit, assistant undersecretary for Land Transport, MoTC.
The official said that MoTC recently launched several projects for the planning and development of road network including the QPMP.
“It’s the main focus of efforts towards the planning and distribution of parking spaces and development of policies and regulations for their operation, in line with current and future road networks, public transportation, land use, and future prospects for demographic and labour expansion,” he explained.
The Smart Parking Qatar Conference, supported by the National Traffic Safety Committee, is a platform for developing car park management strategies and innovations for sustainable and liveable cities.
