Authorities step up food inspections, destroy 2,500kg of expired meat
Authorities have stepped up their efforts to check spurious and expired food from spreading in the country.
Just yesterday, alert municipality health officials raided a store in the Industrial Area and confiscated around 2,500kg of meat, which had fake expiry dates on them, reported The Peninsula.
The meat, which was in the form of carcasses, were being prepared for manipulation of expiry date. The perpetrators were caught replacing original information labels on the carcasses with new ones with extended expiry dates, according to Gulf Times.
The seized carcasses were destroyed and the storehouse was issued a violation report in accordance with the stipulation of law no 9 for 1990 on the Regulation of Human Food Control.
How long our beloved ministry of health will raid ? How many stores they can raid per day ? My God , why they are playing on health issue ? Unless until these people are punished with severe penalty , they will grow with more branch again.
God bless all of us ;-(
They should find a way to feed all these huge meat hauls to animals...its not exactly rotten meat; just past its best and only failing the high standards for human consumption...2500 kgs of meat just destroyed...seems wasteful when there's animals in shelters and the streets that would gratefully eat it; ministry happy, animals happy and god happy...
I sincerely hope that apart from the violation report, the criminals and owners are to be prosecuted
