Authorities remove perfumes with offensive branding

Authorities in Qatar have ordered bottles of perfume pulled from the shelves of Victoria Secret after the name of the product — "Victoria's Secret: Strawberries and Champagne" — was deemed offensive.

Perfumes as well as creams and a body mist product were all removed from the shelves at one of Qatar's main shopping centres.

The economy and commerce ministry said on Twitter over the weekend that the products went against the "customs, traditions and religious values" of Qatar.

An employee at the store said that the products had been removed on Saturday "because of the name", suggesting that a complaint may have been made to authorities.

On its website, Victoria's Secret describes the product as "a tempting, fruity fragrance... with a splash of flirtation."

Doha News reported yesterday that perfume bottles featuring the Playboy logo had also been removed from Family Food Center.

@knor. Agree, that they will have their hands full when skimpy clothed 2022 fans. I guess alcoholics will be lashed, obscenities admonished, take it too far with the 'skimp' you will be reprimanded. News papers around the world will light up with articles about innocent tourist getting 'eyed' by locals for that extra passionate kiss that they have indulged on Qatari street .

"2 steps back" - Disagree. I know, for a fact that deep inside Australian laws/human-conduct are more Islamic aligned than Qatar. But, every country has a right to preserve their culture. I don't think they are as damaged as Dubai who have forgotten their values.

How ironic. They should remove the real champagnes and alcohol and even cigarettes. Even if the naming is really bad, it's not that harmful for them to ban it.

and why they dont stop selling alcohol at hotels , and the name bars at the hotels?????????????????? why allow women in bikinis in hotel swiming pools...

I get that it is place for expat to (let loose from work )

but why most Qataris families spend time in those hotels restaurants and swiming pools...for me I never go there because that means I am participating in this ( buying alcohol indirectly)

that is just hypocracy

ok for Victoria's Secret: Strawberries and Champagne'' it is great they removed it...but what is wrong with "a tempting, fruity fragrance... with a splash of flirtation." muslim women can not flirt? with her husband I mean?? why assuming the worse...if unmarried girl want to be flirty and seductive that will not stop her...

Hey, they are not just brands.

As a parent you like to keep the any offensive or improper stuff away from your children at home.

Playboy is an American men's lifestyle magazine that features photographs of nude women as well as journalism and fiction.

Playboy is a noun and is defined as a wealthy man who spends his time enjoying himself, especially one who behaves irresponsibly or is sexually promiscuous.

So Authorities of Qatar has made a wise decision to remove it from stores.

It would be absurd to compare this to 2022, authorities are doing what is in their jurisdiction. They are doing welfare to the people living in the community. We should thank them not criticize them.

I dont think a naked barbie doll is that cute compared to what we have now..!! People need to change their perspective. Its true that men will be men.. but why ladies tend to tempt the opposite sex by showing their body parts and all.. (ps: i am straight).

what is more dis-educative, a Barbie or swords and rifles for kids?

as for movies, may anyone let me understand what is the point to cut love scenes if movies show at kids' time cruel violence, blood, and even horror parts?

those are just brand names.....And how they will handle the 2022 event when the fans comes on their skinny outfits and behave inappropriately? deport them? put them in jail? maybe the one who reported that is an avid subscriber of playboy as they know the story behind of that name. ^_*
