Asian expatriate sentenced to three years in jail for dealing in drugs
A Doha criminal court has sentenced an Asian man to three years in jail and ordered his subsequent deportation for illicit drug trade, local daily Arrayah.
The court also fined the defendant QR200,000 for the same crime and ordered the confiscation of the drugs and the equipment used in the illicit business.
The case started when the drug prevention department at the Ministry of Interior received information from an undercover source that the defendant used to own and sell marijuana.
Accordingly, the necessary legal procedures were taken to search the man and his accommodation. The police patrol that went to seek him found him walking outside his accommodation.
Upon searching him, a bag was found and it contained some pieces of marijuana. A further search in his house revealed two other similar bags with the same material.
The cops also found an electronic scale in the house, with traces of the illicit drugs. He was using the scale to weigh the quantities prepared for sale.
