An Asian expatriate has been sentenced to jail for one month for attacking another expatriate with an iron bar, causing him injuries.

According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, the man was convicted by a Doha criminal court after he — along with some unidentified accomplices — attacked one of his colleagues in Najma's Souq Haraj.

The victim sustained injuries to his head and body. The defendant had some dispute with the victim, the daily said.

One day, accompanied by a few other persons, the defendant grabbed and attacked the victim in the souq with the iron bars they were carrying.

Eventually, the attacker ran away, leaving the victim wounded. One of the witnesses was able to catch the defendant and handed him over to the police, while the others managed to flee without being identified.
