Ashghal working on ambitious infrastructure expansion plan for Qatar
Qatar’s Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ is on a mission to develop the country’s infrastructure and they are going about it on a war footing.
One of their main projects is the completion of 10 expressway roads, being built at a cost exceeding QR48.2bn. While the East-West Corridor project is almost 65% complete, others are also at various stages of completion.
Ashghal has started construction of four bridges as part of first phase of the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route Project. The project is set to see construction of almost 200kms of new dual carriageway and 22 multi-level interchanges. It will have four and five lanes, with the option of two more lanes on each side. The project is expected to finish in the second quarter of 2018.
Works are underway on 14 projects that will be completed in 2017 and another eight which have a completion date of 2018-19.
Ashghal is planning to build a number of health centres all around Qatar, some of which are in planning, tendering and awarding stages.
The Ras Matbakh projects and Naufar and Simulation Centre is expected to be completed in early 2017.
Ashghal has also started seriously upgrading road infrastructure around the country’s more than 380 schools.
The year 2016 was a good one for Ashghal. They finished almost 92% of Dukhan Highway Central and opened a 3.3km-long phase of the road to traffic in August.
It also opened the new Al Shahaniya-Leatooriya Road to traffic.
Ashghal made great progress in the drainage development projects including in the major Mesaimeer Surface and Ground Water Tunneling project.
