65-year-old Qatari recovers from COVID-19 serious complications after 144 days

Qatar’s healthcare system has been consistently rated amongst the world’s best. A reflection of this has been the impressive way in which the country’s health sector has dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the very beginning, the country has ensured the availability of adequate facilities to test and manage COVID-19 cases.
Qatar’s emphasis on timely testing has also resulted in the country being able to maintain one of the lowest COVID-19 mortality rates in the world.
As Qatar continues working above and beyond to protect the health of its population, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) today announced that a 65-year-old Qatari national was able to beat COVID-19 after 144 days of being hospitalized.
In a statement, HMC said the Qatari was discharged from Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH) after his recovery.

“The patient had been suffering from severe complications due to his COVID-19 infection for which he has stayed in the hospital as an inpatient since September 2020,” the statement mentioned.
“The patient, who had been complaining of pulmonary arterial blood pressure, was admitted to Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital after being diagnosed with acute pneumonia due to COVID-19. His condition deteriorated until it reached lung fibrosis, acute respiratory failure and complete liver function disorders,” according to the statement.
Executive Director of HMGH, Hussein Al Ishaq, said that the patient had to be put on ventilators in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a long period.
His condition then started to improve and he was able to move his limbs and communicate with the medical team, Al Ishaq explained.
Following that the Qatari citizen underwent rehabilitation, physiotherapy and occupational therapy at the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute.
“The recovery of this patient is a good example of the high quality of intensive healthcare provided by our medical teams (physicians, nurses and specialists),” Al Ishaq highlighted.
