Croatian cruising ship hosts FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ fans in Doha
The largest square-rigged sailing ship in the world, ‘Golden Horizon’ is a Croatian ship that is ready to arrive in Qatar planning to host the Croatian fans during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ sailing from Croatia to Doha in October.
Announced by the Croatian Business Council (CBC) through a press statement on Sunday, they further remarked that this project is basically executed in an effort to advertise and celebrate culture and tourism. Also, to display their undying love for the sport and their national team. The team finished as runners-up in the 2018 World Cup staged in Russia.
The idea for the ‘Golden Horizon’ initiative was invented in the year 2019 when the Qatari dhow Fath Al Khair cruised to Croatia to popularize and hype the World Cup, said Project Director at CBC, Omar Saciragic.
"We want to use this opportunity to thank the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Discovery Qatar, Qatar Tourism and Doha Port officials, who made it possible to showcase our ship in a prime location in the heart of Doha Port. This project is a testament to a great relationship between our two countries and we hope that this will only serve to strengthen our bilateral ties," said Mario Lozancic, President of the Croatian Business Council in Qatar.
Such type of a clipper sailing boat with square-rigged sails is called Bark. It is basically a replica of the legendary sailing ship called France II which was built in 1913. The clipper., however, it is an impressive 162 meters long and 18.5 meters wide. Being a five-masted barque, it has 36 cross sails with a total area of 6,347 square meters based on the information presented on the CBC Qatar website. They claim to have been inspired by history’s magnificent Tea Clippers and Cape Horners and added their own contemporary twist to it. "First-class service, top-notch dining and elegant cabins, all with a sea view as part of the luxurious experience on board. 'Golden Horizon' will be docked in a premium location in the heart of Doha Port," adds the website.
Comprising of a Gallery Deck inside the ship, one can find a library, guest services, a dining room, and a boutique selling almost everything from essentials to high-end sunglasses, binoculars, and designer clothing.
Marina Deck on the other hand is where the ship’s gateway to the ocean is present. It’s the marina platform opening just above the water at a stern. Guests at the platform are free to enjoy the underwater destination with the ship’s scuba diving equipment or borrow snorkels to sight-see the marine wildlife from the surface. Not just that, the marina is a hot spot for complimentary watersports equipment and also houses a spa and a gym.
