Many kids today probably cannot even imagine a life without being with play station, computers, Internet, cell phones, iPads and iPods. IMO, they are not evils at all however, in many ways, electronic gadgets are a great augmentation in the world and kids today benefit tremendously from the availability of technology. When we were kids we were encouraged to spend the free time running around playing tag, ball, riding bikes or climbing trees.
Ah, jeez…. Nowadays, of course there is less of a desire to actually get out and burn off energy because the sad reality is many kids today who are engaged with technology don't really have much energy to burn; they are too wrapped up in gadgets, addicted and going through obesity too. I have seen kids today, highly thankful to digital gadgets, tend to get distracted easily and jump from activity to activity. In the long run this can be bad because their attention span can be impacted.

Kids now, specially ours who are raised far from home, do not know what is a friend (a true one) what do their cousins look like, what is social life and the worst of all, there entertainment is very technological they have to create nothing of their own.
