English Modern School (EMS) help needed!

Hello everybody! I'm thinking of changing my school as soon as possible and English Modern School seems really good, close to my house, and the fees are quite good. What do you think? I've read reviews about the school but I need recent ones.

Thanks in advance!

My kids was in EMS ( not wakra branch ).. Not too bad. Do agree most local students vs sxpats. May have disciplinary issues but teachers are quite strict & trying v hard to improve . I believe you should pay a visit to the school to judge it for yourself.

Hi ... I am considering of moving my younger brother to grade 8 in EMS ... and I want to make the right decision. Are you studying in EMS?

How is the teaching standard? Hows the school environment, I've heard that the local students are in majority and thus expat students face a lot of problems, but i have also heard that recently they have revamped the school (as you suggested in your post)

Plz assist me in making the right decision.

Thanks a lot!

EMS have a lot of improvement this year.

New batch of TRUE teachers (UK, american & others) joined;

An increase of student population;

Majority of the teachers are taking masterals;

New batch of teacher assistance joined;

Teachers assistance were not allowed to manipulate the teaching, they're assisting the teacher and helping the children;

Classrooms are not crowded;

EMS have now literacy coach and the teaching practice in EMS is being monitored.

There..so, i seen EMS, I experienced it!

Cheers everyone!

Hi Ines, I saw it from outside. It's under construction & according to them , should be ready by Sept. By the way, you mentioned the classes are 30 & above. This is for which year ? I have talked to parents which their kids are in year 3 & 4 and they told me max is only 25.

By the way, when we had the school tour in Nov last year, they also mentioned that they plan to expand the school premises.

The information is Wrong n_minie... do you see it just from outside... or you actually visit the new facilities?

Hi Ines,

Glad to know that your son is developing faster than DBS. That is more important than the actual school itself. People move / transfer school mainly because they think that the other school is better or they are not happy with the current one.

I went to DBS last week & they confirmed that they are building ( under construction ) new extention blocks for the school. Even the security guard confirms it & showed me. They told me that when the new blocks are up, there will be more classes & num or students per class will be smaller.

Anyway due to shortage of schools, all major schools have huge waiting list. Even EMS does not have anymore place except for waiting list. SO I do thank God that our kids have a school to attend as that was my no 1 concern when we first landed here. :)

I am not against you minie, I have friends that their kids are in EMS and they are satisfied!

There are not a new building for DBS will be the same just class rooms will be split in Half.

And Yes I am really unhappy starting from the head of the early years till the principal.

I agree with you, not all schools are perfect and Newton British is one of them, but I found that there my son is developing much faster than at DBS.

Sorry, the kind of improvement are from comments from parents who have kids in DBS. They told me they like their syllabus, activities and they can see their improvement accademically. If you noticed, this forum is about EMS & I replied because my kids are in EMS. So if you would like to know more abt EMS, I will be more happy to give you my personal experiance. Prob your class of 30 are in reception ? Ny friends kids are in prob year 3 & 4 and they don't have a class more than 25. Moreover I was told that the school will be expanding ( constuction work in progress ) and will be completed by Sept 2012. Who knows the classes will be smaller when the new building is up. To me one man's meat is another man's poison. I respect your dissatisfaction & I am sure you are happy with Newton now. To me not all schools are perfect. May be the best available but not perfect.. so as long as your kids are getting good education & attention, it is all what we as mothers hoped for.

I want you to name some of the good improvements. Please I want to Know...

I listen that they will divide class rooms to increase the number of classes in the school, is this what you mean?

Or the increasing of fees that they cry for?

Or ignoring parents and teachers in their concerns because "they know better about education"?

Please answer, I really want to know!!!

why so ? You have bad experiance with DBS ? I have many friends whose kids are with DBS & I don't hear them complaining at all. In fact I do see good improvements

Hi n_minie hope the new school of your kids will not be DBS (Montessori) because if yes... you are just swapping problems!

Personally, my kids are in that school. Location not bad close to my house and overall is good compared to the local schools that I used to go to. I dissagree with Kanooza that says plently of arabic homework.. I am not sure which year your kids are in but my kids only gets arabic hw once a week.

Overall, I don't consider it as a bad school. The only thing I don't like are the students. Majority arabic & they love to play rough. So if you are the weaker one, then you will get bullied.

To me, getting acceptance into a school is harder than getting a job here. So if you are accepted to this school then try it out before you move to a preferred school.

I heard most of the school have very long list. Better schools which I heard are

1) DESS - need to hold British passports

2) Sherbourne

3) Park House

4) Doha British Montessori

5) Doha College

6) ASD ( American School of DOHA )

If you are looking for good schools then you will hear the list above mentioned by most people.

And lastly, I am also moving my kids out of the school. Not to say I hate EMS but just am putting them into better schools. If English is your main concern then going to school with more 'English' nationalities are always better.

After my survey within all the british schools for this week...also within the indian schools...I discovered that English Modern School is the moderate in payment & its teachers are the best compared to those who use to get strange nationalities for english.

so, I think we will keep there & will try to fix our problems with the management because the difference in payment between this & other schools is too much plus other schools dont provide safe transportation even park house, QIS, ess & newton!!

But can U suggest any good school for me with moderate payment.. My kid is 10 and she has basic English...

1. the school dont have a good children follow-up

2. its a commercial school first & last [they ask for money everyday.

3. no activites also...from the beginning of the year, we didnt have any celibrations except for the qatar national day

4. they dont give any homework except LOTS OF ARABIC HOMEWORK ..

5. they dont have the British English Reading Program

6. They teach french in YEAR 7 which is already toooooooo late while cambridge now give it from KG1

but there is another big problem in cambridge which is the standard of kids there...they are telling bad expressions & shits in early ages

**enough for EMS or still wants to know more .. because I have LOTS ACTUALLY!
