Doha traffic...!?

Ok, I keep hearing it's bad, but how bad?? Is it the roads, the amount of cars? What makes it such a headache?

Could I get some idea of worst congested roads, times of day to avoid, travel times between say Qatar University and Ali Ahli hospital; between Landmark Mall and The Pearl; between Lusail City and Doha English Speaking School?...these are just some examples to gauge distances vs. travel times.

Appreciate the input as we're trying to figure out education facilities and where to live before we arrive.

In everyday in my work, i used to drive from doha to mesaieed, most crazy drivers are those with land cruisers, BIG SUV's, & sports cars....WHEN THEY ARE approaching behing you they starts flushing their lights so crazy, meaning give them way even 20 meters away from stop light and in RED!

Totally agree. Its the drivers not the roads nor cars. And by golly, driving is different in Doha! You should see it yourself. :D

Each day is like the charge of the light bridgade except that death is much more certain.

it needs to be quick not fast, safe and sturdy not just heavy, look at XC90, X5, ML.

Land Cruiser - so slow of the mark

Patrol - same

Tahoe/Hummer - so, and heavy and unrefined.

A lot of families have landed from other countries, especially Dubai having two cars each or more per family....Did you notice that traffic increased from last year onwards ?

you should get yourself a big car like land cruiser, patrol, tahoe, hummer or expedition to have an advantage on the roads of doha.

Zig Zag Towers to Landmark, DESS, Al Ahli around 15-20 mins light/no traffic, around 45mins to DESS and Al Ahli at busy times, like school drop off and pick up.

For the Pearl add 5-10 mins for Qatar University about the same as above maybe less a couple of minutes.

TV and Burger King Roundabouts are the headaches.

In general, do a defensive drivers course, and then forget everything they taught you, don't use your mirrors, don't leave a gap in front, don't signal, etc, etc. It's all very well to be taught to drive safely, but the safest way of driving is to drive like the majority, and just keep your wits about you.

Wow, I don't see how having roads built for 100,000 people with 1.2million cars on the road not a problem! This country is so small that at rare times like Friday mornings you can get all the way across the country in like 30 minutes. I have trips that with no traffic on Friday mornings takes 10 minutes, other days of the week, it takes me an hour. And yes, watch yourself, there are many many reckless drivers here. It's impossible to give you time estimates on how long it takes to get where. depends on if there has been a wreck, time of month, time of day, day of week, etc.

and you will see flying land cruisers..yes believe it, this happens here lool :P

Just be aware of uncivilized drivers here in QATAR... many of them are the caused of accident and death everyday.

Traffic in doha made by those reckless and careless drivers, those with lack of patience + the stupidity of drivers can cause much traffic in Doha.

Even if you are defensive and the others or not its useless, DISCIPLINE is the ONLY answer.

There aren't that many cars on the roads to be honest if you compare with the other major cities but lack of patience in the drivers and disregard for others on the roads leads to problems.

its not as bad as it sounds ... but ofcourse you will need your car air con to be working better than just fine during day time.

Roads are fine, Amount of cars is OK.

It is the Drivers and their attitude.

You will understand once you are here.

But not to worry too much, You will get used to it.

if u are withing your lane and watching the following traffic in 360degree, and u should always be alert on the road as some nuisance drivers are there on the roads always.

The drivers make it a headache, not the traffic or road.
