I want to enroll my 3 year old daughter in a good English school but I am clueless. I also heard that its close to impossible with these large waiting lists.
Can you please advise on what schools you would recommend and why?
My daughter is 5y7m. Now she is in reception class. I have in my list 4 schools :
1.American School of Doha
2.Doha College
3.Doha Montessori English School
4.International School of London
What do you think ? Have we chance for place in any of this schools? Is it now, till the end of january the time for the applications for year 2009/10?
Do u mean the Doha Int English Speaking school? I couldnt find any DISS. The school that i know of doesnt teach any arabic, which is pretty important for me
If you have enough money, send your kid to Compass school, it's an expensive school but believe me it's worth it! The best teachers, fantastic education system, very clean and nice facilities, a lot of activities! 90% of the kids are from Europe and North America but there are also few Arabic and Asian kids as well - quite an international mix!
Doha-Motissori school i enrolled my two daughters and they are soo happy their.i feel it safe place and the teaching are high quality. the teachers are qualified and all of them native British.they have a lots of activites comparing with other schools.they have good adminstration and nice principal.
Your last few lines really struck a chord with me. You are absolutely right about waiting for the MORE IMPORTANT years of education. I guess us parents really know who to create panic situations out of nothing :)
Thanks so much for your valuable advice... One other question though. SInce no hurry now.
WHat do u think of Doha College, Park House and QIS?
I am not a parent, but i saw the problems my parents had with puting my little sister in a school. although both me and my brother were in doha college, my sister was still on da waiting list. (she was also 3 at the time)
so what my parents did is kept her on the waiting list, and they just took my sister to a nursery that looked good. my sister was at riviera for a while which is in a compound near CNA-Q.
then because we moved houses they put her in CESK which is opposite Doha college. these nurserys are all pretty good and typically do not have waiting lists. so your child can attend any of them until she is taken off the waiting list and admitted into your desired school.
This took 2 years but now my sister has a secure and happy place at a great school for the MORE IMPORTANT years of her education.

I don't know about number 3 and 4, I don't think they were around when I was in Qatar. Doha College and American School of Doha are great schools

There was a tread here recently about international schools and somebody mentioned a good one for littleones: DISS. Google it.
Why English Schools? Why not other international schools?
