10 events you won’t want to miss this week (January 29 – February 4, 2017)
There's a lot going on this week so we have compiled a list of all the activities happening here. From the biggest shopping festival to a carnival in Katara Cultural Village, we have it all here for you.
1. Shop Qatar ' A Brand New Tradition: Doha's Very First Shopping Festival (January 7, 2017 – February 8, 2017)

The Qatar Tourism Authority, in an effort to boost tourist inflow into the country, has announced the launch of a new shopping festival named ‘Shop Qatar.’
The event’s first edition, under the slogan ‘A Brand New Tradition,’ will run from January 7 to February 7 and will offer mega discounts on popular brands, cash prizes of up to QR4m and special offers on flights and hotel bookings.
The event will also boast of entertainment activities including Cats the Broadway musical, live music concerts and 15 stand-up comedy acts.
The festival, which aims to target regional visitors, will offer discounts of up to 50% on a range of consumer goods including clothes, electronics, cosmetics and accessories for men, women and children.
In a move to support local entrepreneurs, Shop Qatar will also feature local products designed by students of Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and other local designers. They will be on display at a variety of pop-up stores throughout the participating malls.
Venue: Qatar, Ezdan Mall, Hyatt Plaza, Al Khor Mall, Lagoona Mall, Gulf Mall, Landmark, Dar Al Salam Mall, The Gate and The Pearl-Qatar will be a part of the celebrations.

2. Magical Festival Village (January 19 - February 7, 2017)

It’s fun for the entire family with the Magical Festival Village this year. Be spoilt for choice with an exciting array of pop-up shops ranging from clothing accessories, exquisite art, to artisan chocolate. A winter wonderland awaits with a wide range of family entertainment. Entry is free.

3. Souq Waqif Spring Festival (January 20 – February 2, 2017)

Enjoy live performances of traditional songs and dances by Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia entertainment groups.
Several cultural performances and shows will happen on stage throughout the 15-day festival, at different parts of Souq Waqif. Several popular Arab singers and artists will perform at a dedicated stage.
The popular dolphin show is back at the Souq Waqif’s amusement park (Al Ahmed Square). Shows will be on from 4pm to 5pm and 7pm to 8pm.
Al Ahmed Square will host eight games for children (4 to 10.30pm) as well as amusement rides like Crazy Frog, Ranger, Caterpillar, Crazy Fire, and Extreme Swing.
The Blue Drummers, Alien Percussion, Toy Soldier, Rainbow Parade, Orange Drummers, and Venice Group are some of the other shows that are being planned.
Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre (Mirqab Hotel) will host a separate ‘Kids Show’ daily at 7.30pm from Friday to February 2 while Majlis Al Damah features a ‘Spring Championship Damh for professionals and amateurs.
Art lovers and artists can take part in activities at the Souq Waqif Art Centre from 4 to 10.30pm.

10. Doha Comedy Festival (February 2, February 4, 2017)

Be ready to buckle with laughter as Qatar’s largest stand-up comedy show ‘Doha Comedy Festival’ is back for the 3rd time. The line-up includes the world’s top performers from the US, UK, Middle East and the GCC.
The Doha Comedy Festival is organized and produced by The Social Studio and supported by Qatar Tourism Authority as part of ‘Shop Qatar’.
The Festival will host world-renowned standup comedian and international TV host of ‘The Daily Show’ – Trevor Noah and the British comedian, ventriloquist, and winner of Season 10 of America’s Got Talent -Paul Zerdin. These talents will join extremely popular performers from the Middle East and the GCC including Bader Saleh whose YouTube show garnered over 346 million views, Nemr Abou Nassar entitled with ‘Lebanon’s King of Comedy’, the Jordanian comic critic Rajae Qawas, Syrian social media activist and comedian Mohanad Al Hattab, Egyptian standup comedian Mohamed Salem and the fluent Arabic-speaking comedian from South Korea - Wonho Chung to name a few.
