Environment of Qatar

TheSecretWeapon
By TheSecretWeapon

Many people have moved here for work and from many different countries. its so nice to have different people from different walk of life.

I have been in to some researches in some environment here last days and I found Many of them are very poor in English (Spoken) and specially the way they communicate and pronounce the words.

Even Many office staff in some organizations,do not even good enough in their paper works. I have noticed in many organizations through out the country.

This situation can spoil the future of our children and all people here as they will learn only some broken English in this environment, having such people arround...!!!

Its better if we can get corrected, either by recruiting good english speakers or reducing such people from this environment.....!!!

My sincere wish is to protect this environment from Bad and Lies..... and the Innocent people, at my level for the future developements.....!!!

Do not bother much about the Arabic Language.....

Its about spoken English...Its better if you all can think how it can effect this environment in future than just commenting on this topic.....

We dont need to be an expert to bring out an issue or complaint which can effect or harm this environment... people who can make changes, will come up with good decisions and will work for improvements.....

Also, its better if you all can see this issue as an outsider and in other point of views....

Cause of people gain something here....we dont need to hide things from the truth.........!!!

Arien,

It is obvious, by the way TheSecretWeapon writes, that she is not an English speaker.

She is just being meaninglessly pretentious probably in an attempt to lift here low self esteem!

Any educated and humble individual would understand that anybody may have an accent when speaking a foreign language. The English level she refers to is actually very good, when considering what the speakers are paid!

By Arien• 11 Jan 2010 08:23

whyteknite is right.

It is not going to spoil the kids in anyway. Kids are going to schools and they will learn.

Why the English speaking always want the whole world learn their language and make their life easy , lol. Try and learn the local language if you find it difficult to converse and wana live here. simple

Nomad_08 was asking you what kind of English are you referring to? still, you just wise-cracked an answer...NOT GOOD.

Folks from UK speak different English depending from what part of the country they come from.

Americans speak English with a definitive twang also depending from what state they live.

Filipinos speak American English bcoz it's their 2nd language unless they were born and grew up other than the US.

Qatar is a country where people from different countries come to work. And because of this, the locals and Arab speaking nationals would have to learn to do business.

I would like to reiterate that, as long as the message/idea is conveyed clearly...what's the problem?

If the concern points mainly about the children, parents send their kids to school to learn it.

So, I still don't get your point?

You did mention that the Arabs learn broken English from Filipinos and I replied that it's not their fault.

I said: "I know SOME Filipinos who speak fluent Arabic , maybe bcoz they stayed in an arab country for a long time."...and you said I MENTIONED "only".

Again, we're still waiting for your validation because if this is how you defend your stance...sorry GIRL, you need to research more.

However...in this case, you started this topic and for us to concede with what you are saying, you should cite VALID POINTS. up to this time, you still failed to do so.

when you say environment it pertains to the physical and tangible aspects of a specific area , entity or subject....meaning: the sorroundings.

Do you find it as an ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE that Arabs speak broken or little English?

Correcting one's use of English, grammar or pronounciation could be misconstrued and may cause alienation....depending on how one does it.

BUT...in the tone of your posts, you somehow imply that you don't like what you hear around you...sad to know that though. Coz if you can't be happy or be content or live in harmony with the ENVIRONMENT you're in, there really is a problem...with you.

So I'm sure there's not a problem with that. I know some Filipinos who speak fluent Arabic , maybe bcoz they stayed in an arab country for a long time.

Maybe you should consider that as long that the people conversing understands each other or the person was able to convey what he meant to say...what's the problem with that.

English grammar, pronounciation and diction could be taught at school. Plus as parents, we make sure we correct our offsprings when we know they speak wrong English.

Just my opinion....

Mr.Secret Weapon, Please generously organize cheap/free English Course..

If you really care with others and want to help.

You can advertise in QL/Gulf Times.

I believe many people would like to attend to enhance their communication ability to be like Native Speakers, hence good English course (Inliqua, British Council) are very costly.

of expats are going to school so their English has to come from there.. but in reality grammar free English is what you need to get your things done.. People are nice at times and go out of their way to help so this is not really an issue .. at least for me ..

Why don't you learn some of the other languages, then you will be conversing in some other language and not broken English.. After all native English speakers are a small minority here. Shouldn't they change rather than ask the huge majority to change????

By TheSecretWeapon• 10 Jan 2010 20:32

When they communicate with expats....the only tool is ENGLISH...!!! The people who communicate to locals...other than Arab Nationals....they too use English!!! If they use broken languages...the people in this environment and the children too can learn the same.....(Thinking its English)!!!

By anonymous• 10 Jan 2010 20:23

But why.. If you are saying on the basis of the number of expatriates Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Tagalog should be more important. If you look at the country you are in, Arabic should be more important.

How is the future of your children getting spoiled if people don't speak English in an Arabic country, I am confounded.
