QU’s position has improved by 70 places in the Social Sciences and Management section.
The Environmental Science and Education programs are new entries in the QS rankings and have been included amongst the four best in the Arab world.
Additionally, QU earned the highest score (94.7) in Engineering - Electrical & Electronic.
QU president, Dr Hassan al-Derham commented, “We are proud to announce that Qatar University has been named as one of the world’s top universities in 13 different subjects.
“It is also a testament to our unwavering dedication to our strategic direction towards excellence in teaching and research and providing the best possible education to our students.”
QS spokesperson, Jack Moran said, “The latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject indicates that Qatar University continues to make outstanding progress on the regional and global stage.
“With all but one of its previously-ranked programs improving their year-on-year positions, and with a number of departments entering the rankings for the first time, the latest results of our independent performance evaluation shine a light on the rapidly-rising research impact, academic standing, and employability outcomes being achieved by its academic faculty.”
“All of the signs we observe this year suggest that a number of Qatar University’s programs may find themselves among the global top-200 in future editions,” he mentioned.
The QS Quacquarelli Symonds rankings offer an authoritative comparative analysis on the performance of 14,435 individual university programs, benefitting students at 1,452 universities in 86 locations across the world. The rankings cover at least 51 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas.
Earlier this year, QU also announced that it has plans to set up branches in some countries in Asia and Africa.
Under its five-year strategy, for the year 2018-2022, the university is working toward achieving performance excellence and build on key areas of education, research, institution, and engagement while taking into consideration the plans and aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030.
