Question for computer geeks! Please....
I am not very knowledgeable about computers and would like to ask the following. I have an HP laptop with Vista. I have Internet Explorer as server. I then downloaded Safari cos someone told me that was a better server. So I use both servers off and on, often I look up one thing on one and something else on the other. This seems to be no problem.
Now my daughter has a Mac and only uses Firefox as server. I was using her laptop today as I like to watch TV shows on line. I noticed that I was unable to watch/open some of the shows. But on her computer I had no problem.
Now my questions are:
1. Is it because of Firefox or because of the Mac that I was able to watch these programs?
2. Should I install Firefox too? If yes, which one? I tried but I am sure I did not get the right download.
3. Could I keep the 3 server programs on my laptop and select the server I want to use at whim?
4. Or do I need to delete 2 out of 3? 1 out of 3?
Thank guys for telling me what to do. Apreciate it.
Well, it depends on what videos or shows that you are trying to watch. Some of them would result in Page Errors in IE without letting you know what is the problem.
Most of the video players are designed with Flash, so you will need to install this one first.
Answering your questions:
1- It's because of Firefox plug-ins installed, you need to update your other browsers ... If you are talking about Quick time and Apple, then that might be the reason why it played on MAC as those are installed on MAC by default.
2- The latest Firefox version is 3.0, I've been using Firefox for the last 3 years.
3- You can install any number of browsers on your machine.
4- No need to delete, you don't know when would you might be in trouble and you will need one to fix a problem.
Best Regards,
KE
Firstly its "browser" not "server" :)
You can install any number of browsers but Internet Explorer is the weakest of them all.
Firefox & Opera are the best browsers you can install them. If you want Safari so be it.
The problem you face could be because due to Flash player. Download & install the latest version from:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=DXLUJ
Then on things should good well!
for watching videos in each browser we need plugins. most of the plugins can be freely downloaded from internet. usualy while u opening the video the browser will inform you if u r missing the plugin for that video. Both safari, internet Explorer, and firefox do support most of the videos. The only thing u have to findout missing plugin and install it. In my experience firefox is a good browser and I prefer it over any other browser. Every body can download firefox from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
If you give me specific information about the program not running I can give you the name of plugins.
There is nothing wrong even though you have three web browser installed in your PC. I may suggest to clear all your web browser cookies and cache. It may help but not that much. After doing such, I will suggest you to install or update you web flash player(adobe). In some instances some site needs a realplayer/itunes/Mediaplayer installed in your pc for you to watch some movies on line.
