I recommend a Core 2 Quad,Intel-X48 based motherboard(x58 is coming also),4 GB DDR3 (or more),a Geforce GTX260 or 280 graphic card as main components,a 10000rpm HD for data storage, and a solid state disk SSD for the OS (fast access).
Just keep in mind that the price for this (my dream...lol!) config can go pretty high, especially the GC.
I'm planning to assemble a computer, and let me tell you that choosing the right parts isn't an easy task.
Go for a 45nm CPU based motherboard as it will be the standard for the next few years and compatible with multi-CPU.
For the graphic card the technology is improving so fast that no GPU can stand more than 6 months, whatever you buy today will be out-of-date within few months.
Storage also will be remodeled as solid state disks are more and more common with high access speed, despite the small capacity, but this will change soon.
For the Ram memory the battle between DDR2 and DDR3 is close to the end,as low latency DDR3 is coming.
But better to know first for what are you going to use your computer (Office apps,gaming,media,...)?
Hi guys, why everybody is mocking the poor guy. May be he is not familiar with computers and its technologies (only an end user). That is why he asked for our help. I know many guys who doesn't know anything about computers.
See, in the 60 seconds it took for Smoke to post his answer he already came up with a newer version. MS will probably have it trademarked before the day is out.
roflll my friend technology can change in 24 hours, and your talking about 10 years? anyways a decent computer configuration for home use would be core 2 duo or Quad duo 2.00ghz and above 2 to 4gb ram, 200 and above hdd 256mb and above graphics card. cant tell u exact names and prices coz they vary from different makes and models.

Don't buy a computer. Coz tomorrow there wouldn't be any. Will be a chip inserted inside our brain, which will do the external processing. LOL
dude, I suggest that you build your own super computer today that runs on charcoal..hehehehe
