how do i set up security for my network?

i am living in ground floor. Qtel router is in firstfloor...i share the network with my landlord in firstfloor through Dlink ethernet switch. to strengthen the signal i have installed LInksys access point..thanks to QLers advise...and guidelines... connected..AP to my laptop. it shows the config as "public network"" security : No authentication(open)
how do i set up the security key for this ....now the available net work list shows linksys with other networks around...it shows a park bench sign (Public!!!) pls advise..

OK I'LL GIVE THIS NUMBER TO OPEN WEBPAGE 192.168.1.254 ITS 100% OK...

attempted what you suggested...

192.168.1.1 is not opening at all....message: web page cannot be found ....what should i do now....????

need to set up security for access point...which is open now..

From your laptop, while connected to linksys, use your internet browser go to this website exactly:

http://192.168.1.1

Go to WLAN set security using Personal, and set the passowrd.

Your laptop will disconnect because of the new password, wait 2 minutes, then reconnect, it should ask for the password, it will be secure now
