What items are a good deal in Doha?

I am from the US and will be living in Doha for atleast 6 months. Is there anything I should buy during my stay here and bring back home that would be a good deal? I have heard that gold is pretty cheap here but I havent had a chance to look around yet. Does anyone know if purses are being sold here at a good price? My wife is back home and I would like to get her some stuff.

Purses, handbags etc can be bought here quite cheap, especially at the sale time. Wait for Ramadan and Eid, when a lot of expensive designer items are heavily discounted.
