Qtel dilemma !?

umm-salayum
By umm-salayum

here is my dilemma with Qtel, my husband wanted to top up my hala on the service machine at Qtel, by just simply mistyping my phone number into the machine the amount of 50 QAR went to another persons phone number !
Bummer !!!
Now what to do, we ask the guy at the counter , if he could help us , to get our money back. Well , turns out they can do nothing, money is lost, sucks to be me :(
As a westerner that answer is not good enough for me , I mean, you can transfer credit from one phone to another and such.
So , why can't the ppl at Qtel go into the computer system and cancel or reimburse the amount I lost ?!
If that is not a possibility like they keep telling me , I think they need to improve their system , so that it becomes a possibility , or am I wrong for thinking like that!?
I mean , I am sure that has happened before to other ppl , that they mistyped the phone number and lost their money , Qtel got the money , but you didn't get a service for it !

What do you think?
Are they simply incapable to help me out here, or the system just sucks like that , and they can't help , or they just don't care , or what's up with that?????

your impute please :)

Umm Salayum,

Plse dont take it so seriously from the guys. It was fun for them. See it in another perspective...

as with Translator suggestions, I am really impressed. Like having the number shown twice and a voice recording saying the number and ask:"Are you sure this is the number you want to credit?" That would be great...and I believe it should be just a piece of cake for good programmers.

You lost QR50, Inshallah you get more than you lost. But I have to admit one thing. I did laugh at Dracula comment.

Finally, I do understand your point about Customer service. I am from London and where else would you find the best Customer Service? Customer service as you said is about satisfying the customer and get him to remain loyal to your services. But few understands what it means.

QR50 is nothing for QL. But the bad mouthing they will get is more damaging than the money they could have refunded you.

translator now that is a very good idea.... ask for the number twice , just in case .... for all the "losers" typing in numbers wrong , BAH ..... lol......

does Qtel have a suggestion box anywhere ..... do they even care to know ???!!!

By Translator• 3 Jan 2011 13:55
Translator

Seriously, Qtel technical people should make these machines ask for the number twice, so that if a typo happens, it will not proceed. I always used online service of Qtel for topup, but it only ask for the number once, which could also fail the same way.

I've always thought the problem is with the companies here. Now I realised the customers are the problem.

How on earth you all've got this mind set. If I made a mistake the "CUSTOMER SERVICE" are not supposed or expected to help......great. Is it in the blood or you gained this here.

I don't care where you from, all I am saying is , the customer service here sucks .....

And where I am from, they are more helpful and professional about it ..... and I believe , there would be a option of reimbursing me , even if it is my mistake , it is all about customer service ... NOT your fault , or whoever' s fault.....

a lot of companies just reimburse you out of courtesy , keep you happy and coming back .... that is the business moral of the WEST.

Here it is like , ok, sorry can't help ... go away ....

But yeah , never mined, I am not in the West , I have to remember I am in Qatar !!!

don't blame to QTEL... maybe the person who got your credit needs it badly at that time, it's a blessing for him. your credit will refund soon. God has a good plan on that.

~ i was mistakenly handed 50 riyals instead of 10 to a taxi driver and i did not even get the receipt. The following day went to bakala to recharge my QTEL Hala.. the guy gave me a 50 QTEL credit! ~ now you see?

umm-salayum,

from another perspective:

improving the system to enable a reversal may not work out too well here if they don't have the people to handle it. I'm sure if such a function was available on their system, you might as well also anticipate a reversal sometimes when you put credit in yourself (more mistakes). its' best to leave them with less functions :)

Rizk, no correction possible , realist mistake after seeing the receipt and of course no credit showed up on my phone!

translator , I don't recall , recharging my phone over a machine in Germany, I always used the Internet option , easy and save , never had a problem there ....

and if you transfer money to the wrong place you can always call the bank and they will without question cancel the transaction ....

I been trying to call the other person for a while now ....

it doesn't ring , only not available at the moment , whatever that means, maybe the number is not being used anymore ?!

Sorry to hear about your frustration regarding Qtel.

A word from the wise though, don’t ever admit to being a Westerner on here; you leave yourself wide open to abuse. I have been accused of living in a 'bubble of superiority' lol

Anyway, back to your problem. I presume as your husband used his credit/debit card to pay for the top up; you will eventually have proof on your bank statement that a transaction for QR50 on the date your hubby tried to top up did actually happen. That may help prove you did indeed try to top up and by the fact that top up was not credited to your phone may help and I am presuming Qtel should be able to verify that.

It was bad luck your husband topped up the wrong card. Easy mistake to make by anybody. There does seem to be a fault on the system.

I agree when you say as a Westerner we would not be satisfied with the level of service, in the UK we would get a refund as they would be able to track what happened.

I am sure Qtel could have sorted it out if the right person had been dealing with your complaint.

Good luck.

By Rizks• 3 Jan 2011 12:20

Did you try using Correction PEn on the machine to change the number and insert the right number ? :(

By anonymous• 3 Jan 2011 12:19
anonymous

western-er bashing... let me join

well yes husband is guilty

you know what send him to deal with Q tel

-- but joke aside, Qtel if they have a system to pay this way there must be means to get into it and correct mistakes. and sure this would not be an isolated case or mistyping a number. - honestly can happen to many of us.

anyway:

Qtel is famous in general to try hard and strong with limited success only and we all know that

The machine offers you all the options, including the one you are talking about in the west. You have the option to get a recharge code printed on the transaction receipt, then you can punch it on your phone. In your case, you chose the direct refill, which is prone to mistakes.

Anyways, mistakes do happen, and we do not expect a correction can always be made.

umm-salayum QTel really isn't to be blamed if you look at it this way.

You mistyped the number on a machine, machine does what its programmed to do - no mistake there.

The person that accidentally got the money should have atleast had the courtesy to call back and transfer the credit to your number. But then he might not know who sent him the credit coz you did it through a machine and not through your phone.

Qtel cannot help you even if its a genuine mistake coz from their point of view there is no way to determine if this was a unintentional mistake, unless they investigate into the matter by calling the person who you accidentally sent the credit to which might take days...so ask yourself is the 50 bucks worth is or just take it as a lesson learnt and forget about it. :)

Absurdity at best!!!

1. How Q-tel will know if you are the 'right' person and not cheating someone else.

2. even if you show receipt, what is the proof you only paid that not the other person whose no is there in receipt?

3. As a westerner means what???

4. you know more or your 50 riyal is more important?

5. or Q-tel should help you reimbursing, for your stupidity, because you are westerner???

I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the work moral / customer service in Doha in general.....

if they don't have it , they will not try to get it for you....

for the most part , I have noticed, the little employ simply don't care , if you get want you need/want ..... it seems like it is not there ambition to care , or to help ..... anyways, this is just another add on to all the lack of helping customers in Doha!!!

I know , where I come from , if we don't have it , we will do what ever it takes to get it for the customer, or a lot of times , they will help you out of courtesy and such .....
