National Address Law - Implications on RP holders who are currently outside Qatar

Dear all

I lost my job late 2019 and since the job outlook wasn't great, and we decided as a family to go back home temporarily, as staying in Qatar would have been too expensive (especially the accommodation and school fees) and not tenable in the long run. So we left in early Dec 2019, hoping to return as soon as I found another job. We had also moved out of the rental accommodation, transferring Kahramaa back to the owner's account.

My employer had agreed to retain my RP (which would in turn help retain the family RPs) so I could return within 6 months (as well as the family, or I could extend their stay out of Qatar for another 6 months via MOI).

There was some progress in Feb 2020 and before things could move forward, COVID-19 lockdowns everywhere meant that travel back to Qatar was not possible for the foreseeable future.

Now, with the National Address Law mandating that we register our details, I am confused as to what to provide as our residential address, because we don't really have one. We never had a landline number at home (we used mobiles and 4G Internet).

I was wondering if we could provide a friend's residential address (with their consent).

I would appreciate if someone with some insight could share details (based on facts, and not speculation).

Kindly refrain from bashing, ranting and hijacking the threat. I am sure there are others in the same situation. I will also call the call center and ask directly and will share if I learn anything new.

Thanks in advance.
