jack- I understand that you may be offended by my comments - well that perhaps is your problem. I am speaking from experience of my own health, also in the OBGYN and for my son and husband. There are very few doctors who I have seen here who instill even a shred of confidence they way I feel about the medical profession at home. Perhaps this is to do with a stringent complaints and investigation process that we have, I don't know. But many a time I have wanted to complain about something here - unnecessary treatments, overcharging, ill informed doctors, not listening to the patient etc but I simply don't know where to go to register my complaint, do you?
Its not always rosy in UK or the west. Many patients from middle east have come back in a much more worse condition than they were in before they left this place in search of better medical facilities. Simple proceduers done on middle eastern (UAE, Kuwait and Qatar) patients who went seeking experts in the west have come back in really bad shape. Its just they dont trust hospitals in their hometown. That happens even in US. On top of that the mishaps that happen to patients treated abroad doesnt come out in the open. People just tend to accept that, whereas if the same happenned here, they would blow it out of proportion. There are some western doctors and numerous 'educated in the west' doctors in Qatar, and it definitely doesnt mean they wont be fit for work outside Qatar.
Really not what I wanted to hear especially when you have a young child. But I will look into both hospitals. Need to know whereabouts they are in case of an emergency.
I would strongly recommend to have good medical insurance first. Yes Al Ahli is better private hospital & Hamad is only choice in terms of state run hospital.
Very varied standard of quality of care here. Very few western doctors, which I would have preferred as I am about to give birth in a couple of months.
Al Ahli is the best of a bad lot. You can go to the emergency room with most complaints as it is not a true emergency room (in a real emergency you would go to Hamad the major state run hospital). There is the family medicine section in the main part of the hospital for GP style treatment. Anyone is free to register, as long as you pay (AND HOW you do pay) or have good insurance.

Both close to each other, rule of thumb (and I have a young child and one on the way) minor emergencies Al Ahli, major emergencies Hamad.
I take my son for more normal problems to the Peds dept of Al Ahli - busy but alright.
Thanks guys,

Is it true that most doctors in Doha can't get jobs elsewhere in the world cause of them are not up to standard?
Is that the reason why locals always go abroad to get medical help?
hi
means u talking hospital system,
there is no surgery in private hospital.
So any type of surgery you hav to go hamad n then u hav to meet the doctors n then surgery.
thanks
