I arranged my marriage with the hubby myself. However, one needs a walee..

So let me explain.

I saw his picture.. thought he looked HOT! And had a chance to talk with him on the telephone and write emails, talked to his mom ~whilst this was all being supervised by my walee.

I felt a spark.. he felt a spark..

And he flew all the way from England to meet me.

I took one look at him and knew he was the one - I guess he thought so too.

My walee wasn't happy (my Uncle) because my soon to be husband didn't want to give me a big mahr. But I said I didn't care and begged and pleaded that he was a good muslim blah di blah.. My father was completely against it all (long story and completely halal)

So in the end my Uncle agree and I landed in the UK.

I would say we arranged our marriage ourselves..

However in Islam a girl must have a walee! And I will provide the evidence shortly. Could you explain your situation in a PM and maybe I can help you out islamically with the proof and evidence. As it can be a bit difficult to read between the lines unless you know what your looking for!

Apple is right, if a woman in Islam does not agree to the marriage, then it null/void if she doesnt consent. Sadly the opposite happens sometimes however this has to do with culture....

we have the right to refuse marrying a man not our choice...remember, one of the condition and requirement of marriage in Islam is the "woman full consent for marriage." which means we have the right to marry a spouse of our choice!

From what I understand, arranged marriages in Islam mean that both parties (wife / husband) are allowed to meet and then agree to the betrothal. You are allowed to chose your own spouse, but you need permission from your parents or guardian.

Has anyone seen Fiddler on the roof.

If not, try and get the video...it looks at this issue in some depth.  Great musical as well...in fact should advise Doha Players to do it!

sometimes parents ask , do you love us more than your partner/mate/your loved ones or not ??  so then what you choose > your parents ,, but when you ask them replying you both love me (son/daughter) or the one your are choosing for me ?? THEN SEE WHAT HAPPEN ??

what you people think they might say ??

Depends where one comes from I suppose.....ethically I don't think anyone has a right to choose anyone else a partner to marry, but culturally and historically it is acceptable not just in muslim cultures either. In western cultures even in England arranged marriages happened. I personally think the mother of the bride should try and imagine how the bride would feel waking up in the morning to her 45 year old uncle!

luvtodrive, all parent want their child to be happy and some think they knows whats best for them, but most of the them they dont. so if your parent trying to arrange marriage for you then you should considerate, check your spouse-to be background, if you think you like and can live with the spouse-to be choosed by your parent then why not make your parent happy and deal with the arrange marriage.

But really, your happiness is NO. 1 here not your parent so you need to fight for it.

Everybody is right Everybody is wrong, it depend where we stand.
