Changing visa profession

I have requested my sponsor company to change my visa profession from technician to engineer and they agreed because I have all required documents. But they say it cannot be done before your RP renewal process. How true is this? My RP is expiring on 17 Jan 2016 and they say your profession would be changed in January 2016 only. But I want to change it now? Is it possible?

it can be change in any time no need to wait till January 2016.
