braces

I want to know the positives and negatives of getting braces for a thirteen year old.I have been thinking of getting her braces but many people have advised against it, especially because of the number of healthy teeth that have to be removed. Her front two teeth are slightly overlapping but there is no significant abnormality in their positions.Could people, who have had these for themselves or for their kids, advise with regards the time it usually takes, the pain involved and how much it roughly costs. Names of good doctors (here in qatar) will also be appreciated.
Opinions from dentists will also be apreciated.
looking forward to your help.

Before you worry about having teeth removed???? I suggest you go & see a good orthodontist. I would recommend you either go to the Family Dental Clinic, just off Cring road (subway) ph 4666227 or Dr. Rabin Sivam at the Future something clinic, oppostite Villagio ph 4510051. Both clinics has specialists dentist and are very good.

there are no teeth remove at all. I guess you don't know about braces and how good the modern orthodontist are now a days.

Just go to an orthodontist and get to hear about it first hand , they can explain it.

i would really like the opinion of a dentist with regard to the pros and cons of braces on the long run. Actually we r going against the natural position of the teeth and i would also like to know what effects does it have on the gum.

thanks everyone. i needed first hand experiences to decide because all othodontists would ofcourse advise that my daughter needs them. its their bread and butter. Umm salayam how many of your son's teeth had to be removed? Actually my husband is quite against removal of good teeth.

my son got braces when he was 12 years old and it worked out just fine for him. It will be a different time frame form person to person, he got his braces removed after 1 year and got some other braces he has to put on every night. It was a lot of pain at first , first 2- 3 weeks, after that he was fine, only every months he got them adjusted again and of course that hurt every time for a few days again, but he was being brave.... I don't know why people would advice against it, we was in Germany at that time and we had a good orthodontist , I don't know for here ,but there is a German orthodontist as well, probably cost a little more ,but maybe it's worth it.

they can advise you probably very good and then you and your daughter should think it over , if that's what you want or not.

I think it was worth it and my son thinks so too.

It is always better to brace after the third molar teeth (Wisdom tooth)is grown. Cos, if she brace before that, the teeth wil start overlapping again wen her third molar tooth grows up !!

slightly overlapping front teeth,.. i think it would be best if you solicit a dentist's opinion first whether she needs braces or not.. they will advise you on the best thing to do... :)
