Alcohol vs Pork

Hi All!

I have read that there are fines for drinking alcohol / being drunk in public but can't see anything related to eating pork in public.

Are there similar fines? Which is considered worse?

Would be great if someone could advise!

The post raises the following queries: Why do you want to eat pork in public here in Qatar? Even if you do so sitting in some quiet corner of a bench in a supermarket or a park, how will the public get to know that you are eating pork? If you put up a sign that you are eating pork, will you not be instigating trouble? Lastly, how did this silly idea come into your mind? You must be downright stupid to think this way. It can't be an affect of Covid-19 as this virus does not effect the brain and thinking powers of humans.

As far as I am aware of there are no fines for eating pork in public. However, the only way to get pork in Qatar is by buying it at QDC as no establishment in the country have pork in their menus. Therefore the only way to eat pork is if you buy it and cook it at home.

Even if there aren't fines, it is common decency not to eat pork in public. Best to have these meals at home :)

Drinking alcohol in public is definitely the worse of the two. I don't see why anyone would be concerned about eating pork in public. Like GenghisKhan said, I don't think the cops have a way of identifying what meat you're eating. They may not even check tbh.

Hey, That's a really good question. But I'm not sure if there are any specific fines for eating pork in public.

One has to be tested for being drunk to be fined for it. (Apart from the obvious i.e. behavior and smell)

However it's not easy to know if a person is eating pork, so I'm not sure of the ways that authorities could use to identify the meat as being pork.

Obviously being drunk in public could result in harming others(hence considered worst) when compared to eating pork in public.

A fun fact- Both Alcohol and pork can cause Cirrhosis!!
