Advice to cope with Sciatica
I have just arrived in Qatar yesterday having flown out to join my husband, however a week before I came out I twisted my back causing a prolapsed disk to give me Sciatica down my left leg and it is so painful, I have been taking lots of strong pain killers as proscribed by my doctor back in the UK which help ease the pain but the Sciatica does not seem to be getting any better.
The main pain is in the back of my leg and I can not sit down without discomfort in my leg and back, walking tends to help ease the pain however with the constant pins and needles all the way down to my foot and pain killers making me sleepy I am totally fed up.
Does anyone know what I can do to get better? at the moment I do daily exercises to build the strength back in my lower back and use heat patches, also how long I am going to suffer with this? your advice is much appreciated, I am willing to try anything to sort this out and get better, plus have a decent nights sleep. Thanks :-)
Have you tried acupuncture for it.it is very effective in getting relief from the pain and cure it permanently if you continue the treatmetn for certain period. you can discuss in detail with me at 55841088

I have read up on the nhs site and will definitely try the pillow between knees tonight, however I hope I don't have this for 4 months as per timebandit post!!!
I have got more anti-inflammatory tablets to help control.
I also feel sorry for my poor hubby as I keep pacing around the house during the day and waking up every 3 hours during the night for more pain killers.
Try checking out the NHS website on the subject:-

anti-inflammatory (like voltaren) because inflammation around the nerve compresses it, resulting in sciatica. You really have to rest it, be conscious of how you sleep and sit, and give it time.
I have found that when in bed using a pillow under my knees (when lying on your back) or between your knees (when lying on your side) can help alleviate the pain.
Mine was not severe so panadol plus the pillows helped a lot.
Hope you feel better soon
Having been a sufferer in the past, I can tell you that nothing recommended to help with the pain worked. It took about 4 months to clear, and it was pure hell the whole time. Not even the pain killers helped and boy were they strong. That was 4 years ago, and there has been no repeat thank goodness.
The only advice I can give is that it should pass in time.
