10 Fun things to do when you're bored

Sometimes you’re sitting at home and life gets super boring. Your days start to feel too repetitive. What do you do? Here’s a list of stuff I like to do when I get really bored alone at home.

1. Watch a movie or series.
If you ran out of movies or a TV show to watch, then start a new TV show. God only knows how many TV shows I started and fell in love with from boredom.

2. Cook/bake something.
I like to look up recipes of things I like online and experiment for myself in the kitchen. It comes in really handy, especially when I’m bored AND hungry.

3. Create a spa day for yourself.
Sometimes I like to do my nails, dim the lights and put on some scented candles or set up a bubble bath and it’s very relaxing so try it.

4. Read a book
I know your parents must tell you this a lot but really… read a book. I started reading because I was bored and the only thing I could think of doing was reading and found it a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

5. Sit outside and enjoy the nice weather.
We have a swing set in our house so I sometimes like to sit on the swings and listen to music when the weather is nice. If you don’t have a swing set like us, then sit out with a nice, warm cup of tea, coffee, or karak and think about nothing, or everything.

6. Meditate.
I talked about looking after your mental health in a recent article and here I am re-emphasizing its importance. Use this free time to practice mindfulness, meditate and relax.

7. Re-organize or redecorate your room.
I know your mom probably tells you this a lot too but clean up. You discover that you have some really cool things in your room you completely forgot about or you can get rid of clothes you don’t need and donate them. I do it all the time and it’s refreshing.

8. Start an art project.
I was bored one summer and decided to draw and paint a picture of my favorite Disney princesses. It turned out so well that I asked my dad to frame it for me and now it’s hanging on my bedroom wall (below). So try that out for a change.

9. Do a puzzle.
Get yourself one of those 1000 piece puzzles and get started on it. It’s amazing how distracting that can be when you’re bored.

10. Download a few podcasts and listen to them.
You could also watch a documentary; it increases your knowledge but It’s not like studying because there’s no pressure to learn, no deadline, no exam. You could also maybe use this to learn a new language.

I take a trip to Ya Baba Rizks and meet up with zafirah for a hot cardamom karak spitzer or I go roller blading alomng the corniche weaving in and out of the crowd whilst attempting a triple selko
