British Schools in Qatar
We are having to travel to Qatar as my Partner has been offered a job in Qatar.
My Children attend an Independent prep school in UK.
I need to decide if I should move or not as I dont want it to affect their Education.
I would like to know which school you can recommend which teach the British Curriculum and has a high standard English.
I have looked at different websites. Sherborne. DESS and Doha British school.
which would you recommend? any other good ones?
I like Sherborne as it is linked to Uk Sherborne however I have read different views on Sherborne and am quite confused.
My youngest will be in Year one.
Does anyone know what the standard of English is for year one Children. eg. Can the year ones speak English? are they of the same level as uk Yr 1s?
Are they given daily homework from year one upwards?
How are Sats results in these schools.
I am panicing as I do not want them to loose out in the primary education. this needs to be solid.
Do student achieve good IGCSE RESULTS?
Go away from Doha British school, make a search on the name then check Doha mums and the case no.3474 in court p.civil 2nd circl for the year 2012
THE MANAGEMENT AND THE SCHOOL OWNER ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL, THEY OBLIGE THE PERSON TO GO OUT OF HIS CONTROL BY THEIR LIES AND DISRESPECT.
WHEN THE SCHOOL CHANGED THE MANAGEMENT IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2011/2012, WHOEVER IS THERE NOW THOUGHT THAT HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS. PARENTS WERE CHEATED AND THEIR MONEY IS GONE WHEN DMBS MANAGEMENT STUFFED A CLASS ROOM WITH 33 KIDS INSTEAD OF 18 IN THE PREVIOUS ACADEMIC YEARS, THIS WAS DISCOVERED AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WITHOUT CHANCE TO CHANGE FOR ANOTHER SCHOOL OR GETS ANY OF YOUR MONEY BACK.
Hi,
Thank you for all the useful information.
I will not be able to go this year as I have to give a terms notice in the school my kids are in.
so it ll b for next September 2013.
As for wanting to know info about IGCSE s. Its just to get an idea about school results. if they are good then it means Prep school will b good too as they give a base and strong knowledge. I dot think we ll be there for their IGSEs.
I have people recommending Sherborne Qatar. does any one know how the Prep / Junior school is?
how are the ks1 and ks2 results as it doesn't mention anything on their website.
Thanks in advance.
Top schools would be full by now and you should apply to all and put yourself into a waiting list to increase your chances.
I'm surprised that you are PANICKING about IGCSE results, yet your children are still in primary school! Most people don't stay in Qatar that long ...
Yes, the schools you are interested in are good but have very long waiting lists. Apply as soon as you can and you might get a place in Sept 2013. Best of luck.
Ask also on Expatwoman.com and Doha Mums. It's my understanding that schools are closed for admissions for the fall semester. Waiting lists are up to a 1,000 for schools you might be interested in. At this point, it's not a matter of a good school, it's a matter of ANY school. Sorry.
I study in Doha British School, and i can personally tell you that it is an amazing school, with a very good standard of english and other subjects...
almost every child there can speak excellent english, the teachers are very supportive, the classrooms are well-equipped, the way of teaching is amazing...
i am not sure about how they give homework in the primary section since i'm in year 8, but we have this tic-tac-toe system for homework, here is how it works:
we're given 3 main taks per term (we have 3 terms each academic year), for the first and the second task, we can choose which one we want to do from 4 tasks, but we don't have any choice in the third one and it is considered the most important one. I would definitely recommend Doha British School, and i hope you get whats best for you... feel free to ask me anything else you need to know, i'll be happy to answer :)
