I have recently accepted a teaching position at AKIS and I will soon be arriving in Qatar. I am wondering if any of you could share with me your experiences at the school with respect to the following:

Kids and bullying
Administration Staff and HR
Pre-paid Visa Fees/Procurement documents
Accommaditions
Introduction/instructional week
Overall opinions

Any information would be greatly appreciated:)

Thanking all of you in advance.

....and they are currently advertising positions for January 2014. They are saying (and I quote directly from the Eteach ad) 'All teaching staff receive free, very high quality, accommodation. Families will generally be given a four-bedroom villa. There are no additional housing costs: all utilities are paid for and furniture is provided or an allowance is paid'

Do not believe this statement, is simply untrue. I have been told by a teacher that has recently joined the school that new staff are put into (poor) temporary accommodation on arrival and then given inadequate permanent accommodation in blocks of flats.

Be warned - things have now changed dramatically at this school. I have heard that new staff are now being dumped into unsuitable accommodation on arrival and protests are falling on deaf ears. Despite informing people at interview that they will be housed on compounds in good quality housing, teachers are being housed in poor quality flats on the Al Khor Community or are being bullied into a poorly constructed block of flats in the town which has a multitude of failings. If you are considering working at this school - take my advice and son't touch it with a bargepole!

Hey Irish - Like yourself have all of the same questions. Hope to be at AKIS this September, communications with the school have been few and far between (but I am told that's to be expected).

Would be helpful if there was like a guide for new employees - I think for now it's just a case of "go with the flow"

I am still waiting for visa and tickets :S Just a quick couple of questions:

What is AKIS's airline of choice?

What's the typical luggage allowance?

Thanks!

Hi Irish Redhead,

I too have just today been offered a post with this school. Have you taken up the post? I have some issues with my offer letter and wonder how things have gone with you so far. I hope it has gone well, but thought I would do a bit of due diligence.

Cheers

Mik
