Tailoring men's suits: advice and tips wanted
By ivyleaguer •
hi, I moved from Kuwait where I had suits made in the main fabric souk: a one stop souk where you buy fabric and then go upstairs to your chosen tailor and most westerners gravitated toward one or two English speaking tailor shops. Is there a central fabric souq that western ex-pats gravitate to here with a reputable tailor in the same area? Looking for recommendations. I was told fabric in Qatar may not be in abundance as it is in Kuwait. In the City Center mall in West Bay the tailor was charging 175 QR per sq.m for the fabric and 645 QR to make the suit. Is this a good deal by Qatari standards? And are fabric shops open to haggling on price?
thanks!
Rate of the material depends on the fabric.
It has been a long time that I have been to a tailor to stitch a suit.
Drive along Salwa road going towards Industrial Area, on the left you should see clothing shops like Bombay Silk Centre, park and walk along checking the shops and enquire about the suit material and stitching charges.
There used to be a couple of clothing shops across CBQ in Souq and there you could buy your material and the tailor was in the same shop and so you saved on wasted material and tailoring charges. They have moved to Salwa Road and Barwa Village along Wakra or going to Wakra.
All the best. Also need to consider that most westerners earn more than south Asians, the tailor may be charging extra. You may need to negotiate.
I use Goan Tailors next to Jaidah Towers, but limited choice in material. So I buy the material and go to them, hence extra charge.
