Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) refuses claim,

Since moving to Qatar in 2006 my car has been insured with QIC, never made a claim until 3 weeks ago. I drove the car over a pothole (caused by the rain) and this had damaged the steering rack and the pinion. I informed the police and got a police report allowing me to start a new claim with QIC, I left the car with the Ford Workshop in Insudtrial zone, they made a quote and a QIC rep checked the car and was waiting for an estimate. Today I receive a phone call from Ford they tell me that my insurance company declined the claim (they didn't even bother calling me) and that they will not honor any repairs to the car because the damage was caused by wear and tear and not the accident.
I'm thinking of starting legal proceedings as I feel there is no justification for their refusal.
I'm gutted because I had to rent a car for the past 3 weeks, paid for the police report and just been going back and forth for 3 weeks.

Bleu, it's the dammage to the car follwoing an accident (any kind except force majeur)that's covered. The issue her is that QIC is saying the dammage wasn't caused by the accident but by wear and tear (use).

They only cover car collisions, potholes are not covered by any insurance company in Qatar.

If you have a collision, the won't pay more than 10k until you go to court, and this may take ages.

So timely...these reported incidents may as well convinced me to go for the "third party insurance" on my renewal. I had subscribed to their comprehensive plan but i remember them telling me that if ever there'll be claim, i have to pay QR500. I did not understand...thankfully, nothing happened that i should make a claim.

I saw you on Saturday with your family. I was going to stop you, to say Hi! but I did noticed your Boxers face, I told myself, Nah, just leave him alone, he looks angry when driving........

My insurance policy is from the Lebanese company, sorry I forgot the real name, yes, there is fine prints in the back, I got 72 hours to report any incidents from the moment, I receive the police report. Normal wear and tear is not covered, unless is accidental damage due to a collision.

Go for a comprimise, say you will pay 250 Riyals! Try it, may be worth a go.

It was an accident, as long as the damage is unintentional and it happens on a road, then it's an accident, especially if the police issues a report.

The insurance company is deniying that the damage was done by the pothole and just blame it on wear and tear.

Now I have to fix the car which will cost more than 4000QR.

Aren't most Insurance Companies the same.. Pay the premiums, but beware the small print if claiming.

yes abu they are suck, if you read at the back of the policy written you have to report to them within 48 hrs after the accident (or something like that).

GodFather.

Never thought that the Insurance Company would pay for any thing else except an Accident..

What a joke! There is no justification for that at all. You won't get far taking the legal route though. Just let it be and find another Insurance Company if you can.
