Basic Household Things

Ok, I've been in Doha for about a week and a half and trying to set up house for a few days now.  There are a few things I'm having trouble finding and I'm hoping someone can point me to the right place.  Right now I'm still trying to find my way around, so the only places I've been to are Lulu and Home Center.

What I need are digital alarm clocks; nice, pretty kitchen towels (no apron with it though); a lighter for my gas oven (you know, the long thing that you click instead of sticking a match in); and, this may be the biggest challenge, a dvd player that will play NTSC dvd's.  I bought a dvd/vcr combo at Lulu and was assured by the salesman that it would play both, but it only plays the videos.  Anyone know if it's possible here to get a dvd player that's compatible?

Thanks in advance.

I hope to start work in Qatar soon, so if you could write and publish a welcome to Doha book in 3 or 4 volumes, noting the problems and solutions as you go along that will be fine..................lol...........is the driving really that bad?

U can very easily make it to Family Food Centre (FFC) airport. U will get majority of stuff from thr.

and yes Centerpoint is good for electronics.

Try Royal Plaza in Al Sadd Str., specially for those small nice kitchen items, the shop name is Tavola (or something like that), but they have pretty good high quality items. Prices r a bit high but u can find handy & fancy things u won't find anywhere else.

Well, a good store you could try is Centerpoint Mall for some of your stuff...

And D-Ring Road to Landmark mall, is way too tough to be telling buddy...

Now lets see, well nope cant really tell, but seriously, dont get yourself worked upon the way to go there cos there is a lot of construction going on and its quite confusing...I myself cant go there untill I hit the roads till there infact even now I m confused as to where is Landmark...LOL...

So yea hit Centerpoint, or FFC, and yes for that DVD thing, Centerpoint is a good place...

Cheers...happy driving...

I'm in, I think, the Hilal area.  Near the airport.  I'm still trying to find my way around town and build up my courage to drive.  LOL!!  So far the farthest I've gotten is Lulu.

I was hoping to get to the Landmark Mall today, but there have been workers at my house all day so I haven't been able to get out.  Can someone tell me if the D-Ring road is open all the way out to there or is that the portion that is under construction?

what is yr current location bc here in doha u will find supermarkets in every area... its better if u locate somthing closeby.

For basic household stuff Family food centre is the right choice. for food items mega mart got good stuff...i m never satisfied with C/F or LULU.. Giant store at Hayat is good too.

If u have marhaba megazine (availble everywhere) u can easily decide where to go and wat to buy.
