Do employers have the right to retrench employees without giving them NOC

Due to the credit crunch, my employer is reducing the manpower is his possession and is just simply selecting the not needed employees and cancelling their visa without a word about providing a No Objection Letter.
I wonder if the employment law is so cruel in Qatar to allow employers not to give even a chance for the employees to get back to Qatar with another employer.
If that was the case then the law is very unfair, to allow this new age slavery.
The matter is simple is you do not want these people to work for you, give them a chance to find they way with another companies.
I look forward to your comments and hopefully someone from the labour office can comment on that.
yeah, im with you in this matter. my company didnt give NOC also and this is one of the major problem me and my colleagues facing right now. we have 2 year contract but we dont know if they will give us release after we finish the contract.. insha allah!!!
i think the law here is far beyond from other laws internationally.. i hope, legislative here will do some actions regarding this matter...its hard to accept this matter !!!!.....
Thanks for bringing up this issue. I believe this is the biggest problem every laid off employee is facing right now but it really depends on the company...
