All of you assume that he knew he was putting his kids in danger. I am pretty sure his intent was not malicious, and there was no mention of the temperature in the article. I totally disagree with tess' comment on this one, sometimes the best intentions have the most fatal outcomes. I lived all my life in a place with severe weather conditions and I can tell you that the weather can change in a heartbeat. When the kids set out it may have been alright.

This is an unfortunate situation but I think there should be more read into this than neglect.
