For Bangkok ... make sure you visit the floating market and chatuchak market. Do the Chao Phraya River tour. If you have time try to see Siam Niramit Show in the huge auditorium (seat for 2000 people). Last time we were there if you pay with visa card you will get free dinner buffet thrown in.

Visit Wat Arun and the Grand Palace (beware with the conman trying to tell you that the palace close for praying and they said you should go and look around with Tuk Tuk to the temple nearby ... and somehow on the temple there is another guy / lady will approach you that they have precious stone to sell).

Visit Siam Paragon shopping mall ... on the basement there is a Siam Ocean World.

Make sure your hotel is nearby the Bangkok BTS system (monorail transport) ... it would be alot easier travelling around). We always stayed in Novotel Siam Square bangkok ... walking distance to the train station.
