Doha Metro suspends use of paper tickets to promote sustainability
Doha Metro has resumed its services on September 1, 2020, and opened Legtaifiya station on the Red Line, which is one of the interchange stations between the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram, completing the 37 Doha Metro stations.
To promote sustainability, Doha Metro suspended the use of paper tickets and replaced them with reusable Travel Card.
The use of re-useable contactless Travel Cards also helps to further reduce the number of contact touchpoints throughout the journey. Customers can now use debit cards in addition to credit cards to top up online through the website or Qatar Rail App.
Travel Cards are available for purchase at all metro stations. Pre-loaded Standard Travel Cards are also available at licensed retailers including Al Meera, Lulu, Carrefour, Jumbo Electronics, and Family Food Centre.
Gold club Travel Cards can be purchased from dedicated gold club offices at all Metro stations.
Doha Metro recently announced the service expansion of free Metrolink services, which now connects to Lusail Marina District from Legtaifiya station.
Last month, Doha Metro started free Metrolink services to The Pearl from Legtaifiya station.
All lines are operating as the same service hours as prior to the lockdown, from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm Saturday to Wednesday, 6:00 am to midnight on Thursday, and 2:00 pm to midnight on Fridays.
The frequency of services also remains the same with trains running every 5 minutes across the Green and Gold Lines and every 5 minutes from Al Wakra and Hamad International Airport on the Red Line.
