Qatar Living had the wonderful opportunity to sit down and chat with acclaimed Qatari musician, composer, and songwriter, Dana Al Fardan, about her journey, aspirations and projects, including the forthcoming West End Musical Broken Wings.
Dana is the co-writer and composer of the Broken Wings, which is all set to premiere at Katara Cultural Village this weekend.
Based on Khalil Gibran’s masterpiece, Broken Wings' cast is led by co-writer Nadim Naaman as Gibran, Hanna Qureshi as Selma, and Soophia Foroughi (Spamalot) as Mother.
The musical will be played on November 8 and 9, at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm at the Katara Opera House, with Matinees and Soiree performances. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
In this interview with Jorge and Gigi, Dana talks about the inspiration behind the musical.
The idea was to take the universally relevant content of Arab culture and apply it to a world stage, she says.
She also speaks about her role as the official composer for Qatar Airways and confirms her upcoming film projects with British directors.
Dana Al Fardan has gained international recognition for her Arab-influenced contemporary music. Being an iconic Qatari musician and businesswoman, she is now the Cultural Ambassador of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
The only female contemporary composer in the country, Dana draws inspiration for her songwriting and symphonic works from her rich cultural heritage.
An international sensation, Dana's work combines her love of world music with hints of Arab contemporary classical tunes.
Last year, Al Fardan’s internationally acclaimed musical Broken Wings, premiered at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in West End, London with packed audiences in all of its shows.
Among her latest works is the composition of the official song for the Lusail Stadium, which will host the opening and closing matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Her composition Desert Rose is also the theme song for the National Museum of Qatar.
