New park opens in Al Shahaniya featuring a mini zoo
Qatar’s focus on developing its green spaces has been on an impressive rise.
Adding to the country's list of picturesque parks, just after the Crescent Park was opened in Lusail last month, another treat for nature lovers – a desert park in Al Shahaniya has been inaugurated by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The park has 12 designated pergolas for barbeque, a shaded children’s play area and two exercise areas, reported The Peninsula.

Open for families now, the 13,804-square-metre park, has 62 different types of wild trees and a 400-meter walkway.
Nestled within the park is a mini zoo that comprises 8 different types of animals like oryx and gazelle.
The desert park is distinctively designed in the form of a desert tree and has several wild trees and animals unique to the Qatari environment.
Jaber Al Jaber, Director of Municipality of Al Shahaniya, underscored that the opening of the desert park comes within the framework of the Ministry's efforts to establish public gardens and parks in order to increase green areas and recreation places to serve as an outlet for the people of the area, according to Gulf Times.
One of the goals of the park is to introduce young people and school students to the Qatari identity and environment by presenting all types of trees and animals of the desert environment of Qatar, Al Jaber mentioned.
The municipality seeks to develop and serve the people in Al Shahaniya and increase the green areas of gardens and parks in the area, he added.
