W Doha Hotel & Residences hosts Qatari artist Lulu M at Art 29
W Doha Hotel & Residences, the first luxury lifestyle hotel in Qatar, is proud to host the works of Qatari artist Lulu M at its vibrant Art 29. The exhibition titled “R.E.M Rapid Emotional Movement” , curated by Fahad Al Obaidly, will open to the public on October 22nd at 6pm with a grand reception, and will run until November 16th from 9:00am to 7:00pm.
Born in London in 1978, Lulu M is a self-taught artist recognised for her minimalist abstract compositions. Her works often draw inspiration from bold experimentations with myriad painting techniques and materials, producing astonishing pieces that express pure emotion through colour and form.
With the “R.E.M Rapid Emotional Movement” exhibition, Lulu M traverses the emotional realm of her dreams. The whimsical collection illuminates the process and rhythm by which the artist creates her pieces, inviting viewers to explore the unique depths and dimension of her work. Featuring sundry materials, forms and colours, the exhibition promises an introspective journey of her vivid dreams, persuading viewers to look deeply into her pieces and experience them.
The artist’s phenomenal work is not new to the Art 29 repertoire. Her past paintings were previously showcased alongside other emerging female Middle Eastern artists as part of the group exhibition “Currents” by online art gallery Emergeast held earlier this year.
Art 29 was established as a vibrant platform to showcase the works of emerging local, regional and international artists. The expansive gallery has previously featured prominent Qatari names including Ahmed Bin Majed Al Maadheed, the artist behind “Tamim-al-Majid” which translates to Tamim The Glorious – the iconic portrait of His Highness, His Excellency Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as Abdulwahed Al-Mawlawi who is known for documenting local artistic expression from the late 1990s to 2002.
Within a year of its launch, Art 29 has also played host to a photography exhibition titled “Shifting Spaces & Forgotten Walls” by students at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, as well an exhibit by Emergeast, the first online art gallery that brings together emerging Middle Eastern artists and young collectors under one umbrella.
