Back to school – quick pointers to save you time and prepare the kids!
Kids in Qatar (and just about everywhere) are crazy about school holidays. They start planning what they will be doing even before the vacation period starts. But all good things come to an end, and they need to go back to school whether it is the end of summer holidays or the beginning of a new year after winter break.
When the holidays are about to finish it can be very difficult to motivate your child to sacrifice their holiday freedom and go back to school with its rules and regulations. If your child is going to school for the very first time, then you need even more preparation to help them face the significant changes in their daily routine.
Here are some top tips to help you make your kids prepared and ready to go back to school so they can cope up with the change without any difficulty.
Talk to them and prepare them on the psychological front
Talk to your kids and prepare them mentally for the fact that the school is about to open once again in a few days. Preparing them on the psychological front will help them ease back into the normal school routine with less stress.
Remind them that they will be seeing their friends again at school
It is good to be carefree, but that’s boring when you are lonely. So remind your kid that all their friends will be going back to school, and if they don’t return, they will be left out. This will act like a magical form of encouragement as your child can look forward to once again meeting their peers!
Start coming back to the old routine a few days earlier
You and your child need to come back to a proper routine before school starts. Wake them early in the morning; adjust their breakfast, lunch and dinner timings, and make sure that they go back to sleeping at a reasonable time in the evening. Keep a calendar visible for all the family so that important dates such as school excursions, sports and drama events can remind you when certain items such as sports gear are required.
Ensure that everything is ready and all the assigned work is completed
Make sure that the school uniform is ready, the shoes, lunchbox, water bottle are managed, and that your child has completed all their homework and other requirements.
Motivate your child by telling them it will be a wonderful journey and a great learning experience
Whether your child is going to a new class after summer break or to school for the very first time, always encourage them about having something new to explore, and that it will be a new, fun and friendly learning experience. Remind them how it will be a great way to meet new friends, or see their old friends again.
So pull together as a family, greet the new school year or term with a sense of anticipation and fun, and use these tips to start school again with a spring in your step and a smile on your child’s face!
